All It Takes Is One

In 2018, I was still struggling to make a living from this work.

I'd been pursuing my calling for 3 years. I had published a book, I was leading meditation classes, and teaching yoga at studios.

Yet, this wasn't equating to a sustainable income.

I was fighting voices inside—Maybe I should give up and get a real job.

Thankfully, my coach believed in me when I needed it most.

She encouraged me to reach out to schools to do a mindfulness workshop with kids.

I hadn't worked with kids before, but I had nothing to lose.

With that, I reached out to hundreds of schools in my area; however, I received little in return.

There was interest here and there, but I wasn't catching anyone's attention.

I shouldn't blame them. I barely knew what I was offering.

Yet still, each day I made my calls and sent my emails.

Thousands of messages and follow-ups, and still—nothing.

I was becoming discouraged when I finally received a glimmer of hope.

A Turning Point

Someone responded, asking me if I had a program that trained teachers to bring mindfulness into the classroom.

Initially, I was disheartened. I didn't have what the school was asking for. I almost said no.

Until I stepped back and thought, 'Wait a sec.' Maybe I do have this. Or at least if they agreed, I would figure it out.

“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!”- Richard Branson

So I responded, and lo and behold, they wanted to know the cost. I had no idea how to price it, but I decided to charge $100 per teacher. (I wouldn't recommend doing it this way.)

I got 22 signups, and just like that, I had a contract for $2,200.

WOW. That was real money. I knew that I could make this work financially in a way that $35 a yoga class never would.

That one opportunity led me to go all in and start a business teaching yoga and mindfulness in schools.

Years of doubt.
Thousands of emails.
Hundreds of rejections.

All it took was ONE person to say yes, and it completely altered the course of my next few years.

"All it takes is one" has been a mantra for me ever since.

It's why I called my company One Mindful Education.

And had this hanging in my home.

We don't need everything to work out.
We don't need everyone to say yes.
We don't need every idea to succeed.

All It Takes Is One

One opportunity.
One person.
One idea.

One glimmer of hope during a time we desperately need it, and it can radically transform our lives.
