Acting from Inspiration and Alignment
I’m always astounded by how the spiritual path works. We think we need to make things happen to get what we want. We believe outer effort brings forth the life we yearn for. While the action is necessary, we must first ask, where am I acting from?
Am I acting from fear, angst, or “should”?
Or am I acting from inspiration, enthusiasm, and alignment?
In The Surrender Experiment, Michael Singer gives the best example of what happens when we choose inner freedom over outer success. Spoiler alert: The inner freedom leads to more success than we can imagine!
The other day, I was frantically skipping from tab to tab on my computer, trying to figure out what to do. Recognizing my energy was frenetic, I closed my laptop, slowed down, and dropped into a meditation.
As I allowed my mind to quiet, the energy in my body rose, and suddenly insight came for my next step. Instead of rummaging anxiously, I had genuine inspiration and excitement to work on the idea that came through.
As Michael Singer points out, as we let go into our spiritual center, our life simply unfolds. We're not doing anything—we are being done.
Devoting time to re-aligning and deepening our meditative practice is so valuable. It helps us get out of our own way so our higher Self can lead.
