Relationships

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a couples workshop.

When I told people about it, the response was…

“You’re going to a couples workshop…is something wrong?”

My partner, Kelly Ann, and I have been together for 11 years.

In that time, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on my personal growth and education.

I have spent ZERO investing in growth experiences for our relationship.

Hmm…once I realized the stark contrast between the energy I put into my self and the energy I put into my relationship, I knew something needed to shift.

Not because something was wrong, but because whatever the area of life we’re discussing, if we don’t put energy towards it, it grows stale, flat, and lacks vibrancy.

Have you experienced this in your relationship?

Our intention for going to the weekend workshop was to grow in our communication and the depth of our connection.

As we prepare to marry next year, we want to ensure we are transforming.

We’re not 22 anymore, but sometimes I/we act like it.

I’ve brought up the idea of leaving multiple times. I’ve made it difficult for her to trust me. I’ve been selfish.

At times I have been consumed with my inflated ego that I haven’t allowed space for Kelly Ann to be her whole and unique individual.

Things aren’t perfect, but they’re real, and I’m here for it all.

I’m here to do my work. Kelly Ann is here to do her work.

As we step into this sacred transition to Husband and Wife, Father and Mother, it’s important we put time into the third body of the relationship.

That's why we went to the workshop.

We learned new communication methods and highlighted energy that was blocking deeper connections.

If you have a partner, realize that the energy that is your “relationship” needs tending just as your own personal development.

Take time to invest in it.

Your partner isn’t meant to complete you or even to make you happy. Only you can do that.

BUT, within the sacred bond of your union, you have an opportunity to deepen your level of trust, intimacy, and purpose.
