Podcast Transcript

Hello, friend. Welcome to another episode of the Art and Business of Meditation podcast. I am your host, Lou Redmond. And today's episode almost wasn't going to happen. I spent the last week driving from. New Jersey to Oregon, moving all of. Our things and setting forth on this. Next chapter in a new state. So I've been in a big transition. And with that, I did not get. An episode queued up to go out this week. And originally I was just going to. Let that be, but I thought I'd speak a little bit to this concept. Of consistency and showing up, especially when. We don't get a lot of feedback in return. And I'm going to do that by. Sharing a newsletter that I wrote a. While ago that if you signed up for one of my free courses, you. Might have gotten this email in my email sequence. And I'm going to read it to. You and I'm going to frame it. In the realm of this podcast and speak a little more to it after I share it. And so this is kind of a different sort of format today, and we're. Playing and experimenting with hopefully this being. Inspiring or helping you in your creative process. Before I get into it, there is a question that Seth Godin would ask. Would people miss you if you were gone, if you didn't do the thing that you do, if you didn't create. Another meditation, if you didn't do any. More coaching sessions, if you didn't write, if you shut down the work that you're doing, would people miss you if you were gone? And this is a question to ask ourselves. And depending on where you're at in the journey, you might be like, lou, I need to find first people to. Care enough to pay attention, care enough to miss me in the first place. And you might be there, and you. Might just be looking at this in. An early stage that even if there's. Just one person that would miss you, one person that you've been helping through. Your posts or through whatever you're sharing, that this is a way to really connect to the thing that we're here to do. I used to do work in schools and I would go to speak in. Front of hundreds of students, and I. Left with a sense of unfulfillment, not feeling like I don't know if I'm really getting through. And what I found was that if. I didn't show up to those schools, I don't think the kids would really miss me. I don't think that they would. Obviously, they might not know that they would miss Me, but it just never felt like the most aligned thing. When I used to write my newsletter and I wouldn't show up for a few weeks or I wouldn't write, I would get an email from someone saying, hey, Lou, I haven't heard from you. And this was a sign of, oh, this is where people might miss me if I was gone, if I stopped doing any meditations. Well, luckily I have hundreds of meditations, so maybe people wouldn't necessarily miss new ones. And so I've been asking myself this question with this podcast. Like, if I didn't show up, would people miss me? You know, I missed a week on. December 24, and I was curious, did anyone notice that I missed a week? And sometimes speaking on a podcast can be like speaking into a black hole. Like, you're really not sure who's listening. You're really not sure if they're receiving value out of it. And so as an ask if you. Are receiving value, if you are appreciating this, I would so love to hear from you. Not because I need it for your validation, but because it is valuable to. Know that this is falling on ears. That people are listening. And this is not to say that it's not worth doing if you weren't listening. And so that brings me to this newsletter. The original title was is anyone reading this? And I'm going to free frame this. Episode to speak to it in the sense of is anyone listening to this? I used to create for this podcast and ask myself, is anyone listening? I think every creator asks this question once in a while. Iterations may sound like, does what I'm doing matter? What's the point? Who even cares? A while back, I decided that my time was better spent creating a podcast than creating content for social media. Something about a podcast feels more intimate than catching someone's attention as they're scrolling. Writing for Instagram feels like a waste. Of time, but spending hours on a podcast feels justified. Why? What if no one's listening? What I trade in creating a podcast is instant gratification. After hitting publish, I don't get hundreds of likes and red dopamine hits. Instead, I only receive feedback when people take time to reply or reach out. Sometimes I'll spend hours crafting a message. Publishing a podcast that I'm excited about. And get no response. So what's the point? If you're an artist and no one sees your art, is it still worth doing? Steven Pressfield wrote a book called Nobody wants to read your shit. Rather than shaming you into giving up. His Point is that it's not about. Others reading, it's about you creating. Validation is nice, but it's futile. Are you waiting to get 10,000 followers before sharing your art, starting your podcast. Or starting your business? Create for the sake of creating, not because you'll get likes, but because you are a creator, an artist, a teacher, a guide. Do it because it's an expression of your divine nature. Like so much in life, the joy comes from the process, not the outcome. Do something for its own sake and. Then let any recognition or rewards or. Financial success come later. Are you listening to this? If so, thank you with so much after our attention. The fact that you're spending it here matters dearly to me. I will continue to do my best making listening to these podcasts worth your time. And so again, I ask if that is you, if you have gotten any. Value from this to say something, whether it's in a review or to shoot me an email. Lou Redmond.com I genuinely appreciate knowing that. You'Re out there and I will continue. To create for the sake of creating and trusting in the process, asking myself, would people miss me if I was gone? I hope some of that was supportive for you. And if you are a creator, a guide, a coach, a mentor, a teacher, and you're looking for support in your. Business, in creating your art and getting it out there even when no one is watching, continuing that momentum, then I want to invite you to join Meraki. Mastermind, which is my intimate group of. Teachers and coaches that are going to help you stay accountable. They're going to help you not feel like you're crazy and be supported by others, and they're going to help you do it in your own way. It's the easiest way to get personal coaching from me within a group setting. And also the magic is just when. The group gets together and the other people that you will meet, the bonds that you will make, and the support that you will feel. We start on January 29th. Please.
